Egg Run 2018

On Easter Sunday the weather was kind to the 500 bike enthusiasts who gathered on Davidstow Airfield for the annual Egg Run.  This year’s event will raise over £5,000 for local children’s charities, meaning that the Egg Run will have raised around £40,000 in the twenty years since it started!

From humble origins of motorcycling friends meeting on Easter Sunday to take chocolate eggs to children’s homes, the event has grown, now attracting a crowd of hundreds and raising thousands of pounds each year.  Since 2012, the event has been held by Moorlanders MCC in association with Widows Sons MBA, with the South West Chapter assisting in marshalling and raising money. This year’s marshalled ride lead the bikes through Camelford, down to Wadebridge, along to Liskeard and finished with a lively end event, kindly hosted by Bowden Derra Park, Polyphant.  With bar-b-que, stalls, a raffle and live music, the bikers and care clients were merrily entertained.

We are extremely grateful to the local businesses and motorcycle traders for kindly donating raffle prizes, and to the continued generosity of their corporate sponsors.  The Egg Run enables them to make significant donations to local children’s charities. These are Action for Children, Little Harbour (CHSW), and the learning support units of Camelford and St Stephens, Launceston primary schools.

Action for Children is a national charity with a division in Cornwall.

The Egg Run donates to a local fund used for amenities and adventure trips for Young Carers, children who act as carers for their parent.  Children’s Hospice South West has a purpose built facility in Cornwall called Little Harbour that provides respite and palliative care to children with life limited diagnosis. The Egg Run contributed to the construction of Little Harbour and continues to financially support its ongoing costs.  The two primary schools supported by the Egg Run are in Camelford and Launceston, where there are Area Resource Bases, teaching units for children with learning development needs. The donations are directed towards purchase of specialised equipment for the children.

As with every year, The Egg Run wouldn’t be a success without the kind help and support of fellow bikers, local business and shops.  Here’s the start of the many thank yous…
